Krista Patterson - Paddleboard Instructor

I’m a wife, and mom of 2, living in the Blue Mountains of the PNW. I love drinking whiskey, eating potatoes, sitting around fires, driving my Jeep, and as you could probably guess, teaching paddleboarding and paddleboard yoga. 😉

I’ve been a paddleboard/paddleboard yoga instructor for over 9 years now. My journey with Northwest Paddleboarding started when I was 21. I have a passion for helping people stay healthy by moving their body and getting outside.

My thirst for knowledge has led me through my personal training certification with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, my lifeguard certification, two different 200 hour yoga teacher trainings, paddleboard/paddleboard yoga certification and many other continuing education programs.

When the company started in 2015, we only offered lessons and yoga. Over the years we grew, adding delivered rentals, followed by a storefront, gear sales, guided tours, private events, etc. until we were a full-blown, full-service paddleboard shop. It was so much fun and I’m honored I had the opportunity to serve our community in that way.

However, running a small business is hard, especially a seasonal one. We tackled everything thrown at us, but it was time for a change.  I learned that I can’t pour from an empty cup. I’ve been on a mission to figure out how to navigate this new chapter and a big part of that was taking a much needed break from running at 150% all the time.

So, we decided to close the storefront and move to the middle of the woods. Literally.

What’s next? Well, this is it! I hope I get to continue to teach and inspire adventure while also taking care of myself. I will also be continuing to host adventure trips to Costa Rica.

Cheers, to embracing every moment of this one life we get to live!

Our Story

Over the years, our story has changed. Starting as a mobile company, moving to brick and mortar, to eventually finding our home online.

About Us Northwest Paddleboarding
Paddleboarding

2015 – We opened as a mobile company, offering paddleboarding lessons and paddleboard yoga along the Columbia river.

2016 – Our new 15 passenger van allowed us to start offering tours and delivered rentals.

2017 – We installed a new rack system in our trailer. Kept on keeping on, teaching SUP and inspiring adventure.

2018 – We opened our storefront in Howard Amon Park!! Hired an amazing team and started renting equipment out of our new store. We also made the cover of the Tri-Cities Visitor Guide.

2019 – We moved right next door! Our space doubled and we were able to expand the paddle gear we offer!

2020 – We survived the crazy year. Our team tripled in size to keep up with the new procedures and we launched our online store!

2021 – This was the first year with trailer #2 that allowed more space in our storefront to expand our retail options!

2022 – We had a great year, despite the endless struggles thrown our way. In September we decided to close our storefront and return to the mobile business model that we started with.

2023 – We offered our most popular classes on select weekends throughout the summer. Our online storefront officially closed in December. We started hosting adventure retreats to Costa Rica!

2024 – This year we are focused on becoming an online paddleboarding resource. Our lessons are available online and we will continue to create content to teach our community about paddleboarding. Our group trips to Costa Rica continue!
